This is awesome news! My uncle worked for GM for decades so, even though I never lived in MI, I have a sort of connection to it. There's a great article in the NRDC's magazine OnEarth that is worth a read: (www.onearth.org/article/motown-revival). Will definitely check out the Kiva work.

Finished the book last evening. What a fantastic book. Intensity builds, and shockers abound as many plot threads are resolved in exciting and often unexpected ways. Loved reading this, looking forward to reading it again on my 2nd journey through this epic series. Love it.

Congratulations on your new cat. I always rejoice (and feel a bit envious) when a cat finds a home where it will be cherished and cuddled. Enjoy your new fur ball.

Growing up I had a white lab mouse for a pet and an indoor/outdoor cat. The cat permitted the mouse to crawl over her--supervised, of course. I wondered if laboratory mice have a different odor than wild mice and perhaps that's why the cat didn't register her as prey.

For whatever reason I've been remembering a song we used to sing in sixth, seventh, eighth grade: "Let There Be Peace On Earth" ... and let it begin with me. Things like this personal essay are recorded over and over and over again, and I keep hoping ... it's that mustard seed thing, I think. We have to keep answering challenges like this with compassion. Now that you've finished The Wheel of Time, and once you finish "The Lord of Rings," I recommend Mary Ellen Stewart's Merlin trilogy.

It's a treatment of the King Arthur cycle, from the perspective of Merlin. It includes "The Crystal Caves," "The Hollow Hills" and a third book which name I can't remember. There's a related fourth book, "That Wicked Day," which gives a surprisingly moving and sympathetic portrayal of Mordred.
